10 Prayer of commitment Ps 37:5 Commit thy way unto the Lord ; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. Prayer is communicating with God. At times, we don’t know the specifics of what God wants us to do, where He wants us to go and who He wants us to speak to. In prayer, we express our willingness to go God’s Way, be obedient to His Word and to the leading of the Holy Spirit. 1 Pet 4:19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. We can purpose to trust God that He will lead us in the paths of righteousness and beside the still water. At the same time, we purpose not to be afraid. We trust God enough to go to the ends of the world to share the Good News of Jesus Christ instead of staying snugly at home. Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. I once heard Lester Sumrall make the statement about not letting go of one thing until we have a firm grip on the next thing. Generally, we want to stay where God is providing for us until we have a clear leading to move on. Abram in the Old Testament was led by God to go into another land. While he didn’t know all the details, he had a clear Word from God to move. Gen 12:1 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Abram trusted God's leading and obeyed by taking action on God's clear Word. Abram's name was changed by God to Abraham. Abraham went on to receive all that God had promised him. The Apostle Paul was willing to go preach the gospel. He even went when the Holy Spirit warned him through prophets not to go to certain place. We want to make our life count for Jesus Christ! We want to be willing to launch out into the deep and let the shore line go. Acts 20:24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. We want to reach for that which is before and forget that which is behind. Phil 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. We see the supreme example of Jesus Christ, praying in the garden before He was crucified. Jesus prayed: Luke 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. Jesus Christ paid for our sins on the cross. By faith, we receive the forgiveness that He obtained for us. When Jesus was on the cross, he again committed himself into God's hands. Luke 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. The dictionary defines ‘commend’ as ‘to entrust for care or preservation’ We commend ourselves to God! Acts 20:32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. The word ‘commit’ is a similar word with a slight different definition. From the dictionary ‘Commit’ - may express the general idea of delivering into another's charge or the special sense of transferring to a superior power or to a special place of custody ‘ We pray to our Heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus, committing our way and our works to God. We trust Him to lead us and direct our steps each day! We thank God for giving us clarity of purpose and establishing our thoughts. Prov 16:3 Commit thy works unto the Lord , and thy thoughts shall be established. We thank God for leading us by His Holy Spirit as we commit ourselves to live fully for our Lord Jesus Christ! God has promised to instruct us and teach us in the way we should go! Ps 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. God has promised to guide us into all truth by the Holy Spirit and show us things to come. John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. |
