16         Agreement in prayer

It is wonderful having a partner in prayer.  The two can encourage and strengthen each other.   We have the great promise that if two agree in prayer as touching anything that they ask, it shall be done for them by our Heavenly Father!

Matt 18:19         Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Agree with other believers.

A family member or a close friend can be that partner for agreement in prayer.  Beyond that, there are pastors, fellow church members and even prayer counselors on ministry telephone call in centers for agreement in prayer.

Although we can pray individually for our needs, there are some situations where agreement in prayer makes the difference.  Each person is showing their faith in our Heavenly Father by praying.

Agree with other God's Word.

When we pray, we agree first of all with what God has shown us in His Word.  We have His Old Testament and His New Testament to show us His Will.

Agree with the leading of the Holy Spirit!

We have the leading of the Holy Spirit in our individual lives that gives us peace as we pray God’s Will for our situation.

I Jn 5:8-9          And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.              If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son.

Agree with God’s Word and agree with other believers.

We see a wonderful example in the Old Testament of two people who agreed in prayer and saw God’s answer.

Hannah prayed for a child.  Because she was barren, she was provoked by a woman who had children.   Hannah went into the temple and prayed silently.  Her lips moved but she wasn’t heard out loud.   The priest at first misunderstood her intentions.  When Hannah explained that she was in fact praying, the priest then added agreement to her prayer.  Hannah, in turn showed her faith by agreeing with the priests agreement.

1 Sam 1:12-18         And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.     13         Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.      14         And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.   15         And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.   16         Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.    17         Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.    18         And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.

As a result of Hannah's prayer agreement with Eli and fasting (1 Sam 1:7), a son was born named Samuel.  He became the judge who anointed the first king of Israel and then subsequently the next king, David.   God answers believing prayer!
