22         The Disciple is Not Above the Master

Matt 10:24         The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.

As Christians, we have been given the authority to be Christ’s ambassadors.  Alongside is the truth that we have live a consecrated life toward God.  If Jesus had to pray, fast and know the Word of God while here on earth, we as his disciples are not above seeking God and knowing God.

Jesus Christ is fully the Son of God and the Son of Man.  When He was here on earth, His ministry was as the Son of Man empowered by the Holy Spirit.

    Acts 10:38   How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Jesus has given us the promise, that as we believe in Him, we can work, in His Name, the same works and even greater than He did while here on earth.

John 14:12        “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

We can be His representatives, going into all the world, preaching the gospel.  We can lay hands on the sick and see them recover in the Name of Jesus!

Mark 16:15-20  And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.   16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.    17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;   18 .They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.     19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.     20 And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

People were drawn to Jesus’ ministry through the miraculous.

John 6:2            Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased.

When Jesus was here on earth, he would get up early to pray.   We can spent time in prayer, fellowshipping with our Heaven Father, our Great Shepherd Jesus Christ and being comforted by the Holy Spirit.

Matt 14:23    And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

Before he chose his 12 disciples, he prayed all night.

Luke 6:12   And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

Jesus loved people in spite of being rejected by them.

Luke 17:25    But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.

Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit.   Jesus fasted and prayed for 40 days before entering into ministry.  He overcame the temptations of the devil.  Jesus stood against sin.

    Luke 4:1  And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,   2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.

Jesus had compassion on the multitudes.

    Mark 6:34    And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

Jesus blessed those that cursed him.

Matt 5:44           But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Jesus made intercession for the lost.

Jesus is interceding for us up in heaven.

Jesus walked in faith, believing His father God.

Mark 9:23   Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

Jesus reached out to all that came to Him.

Matt 11:28    Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Before Jesus was betrayed to be crucified, he spent time in prayer.  He committed his life to God.

Matt 26:39-44

and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.     40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?    41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.   42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.   43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.    44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

As Christians, we are abiding in Jesus and He is abiding in us!  We are mindful that without Jesus empowering our lives, we can do nothing!

John 15:5   I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

As Christians, we realize that we are dead to the world and alive to Jesus Christ!

    Gal 2:20    I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

As Christians, we rest in Jesus Christ, believing His Word.

Heb 4:3a    For we which have believed do enter into rest,

As Christians, we live and have our being in Jesus Christ!

Acts 17:28a     For in him we live, and move, and have our being;
