6          The Prayer of Salvation

God will hear any person in the world  that is crying out to Him for salvation.  God wants people to be saved and to be in heaven.

Ezek 33:11a    Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord God , I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live:

There is only one way for people to be saved.  It is by receiving Jesus Christ as Lord.

John 14:6    Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

We cannot by our own efforts get right with God.  If it were possible to get right with God through just living right or working hard, then God would not have sent His only begotten Son to earth.

Rom 3:23   For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Rom 6:23   For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Rom 5:8     But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, came and made a way for us to have eternal life and abundant life here on earth. When Jesus died on the cross, he bore the sins of the world. He was without sin and bore our sins.   Three days later, God raised Jesus from the dead. Jesus Christ is now in heaven. The Bible says that there is no other name given among men whereby we may be saved, but the name of Jesus.

Acts 4:12    Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

In another passage, it says, that to as many as received him, he gave power to become the children of God. Becoming a Christian is just a prayer away. We can have forgiveness of sins, peace with God and have God's help in our daily life.

According to the Bible, to be saved, we confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead.  When we confess the Lord Jesus we are acknowledging that Jesus Christ is fully the Son of God and the Son of Man.  We believe the best way that we know how that God raised Jesus from the dead!  The Bible then says that we are saved.

Rom 10:9-10          That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.    10         For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

We can pray: Heavenly Father, I ask you to forgive me of my sins. I now say with my own words that Jesus Christ is Lord of my life and believe in my heart that God raised Jesus from the dead. I thank you for saving me to eternal life and helping me in my present life.  We pray this in the Name of Jesus Christ, our Savior.   God hears us!    The Bible says, 'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.'

It is miraculous that simply by praying to receive Jesus Christ as Lord, one is transferred from the power of darkness into the kingdom of Jesus Christ.

Col 1:13    Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

In the new birth, we instantly become a new creation in Jesus Christ!

2 Cor 5:17         Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Once we are Christians, we can share the gospel, that is, the good news of Jesus Christ with others.

We have been made ambassadors for Christ.  We can offer the gift of salvation to all we meet.  If anyone hears and receives the gospel, they can become a child of God.  God wants 'all to come to repentance'

2 Pet 3:9           The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

The comparison can be made of a person holding out a gold coin and offering it to someone.  The other person has to take the coin to receive it.

John 1:12          But as many as received him, to them gave He the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

As we share the gospel with others, we also pray in advance.  We pray for boldness in sharing the gospel.

Acts 4:29-30  And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,    30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

We pray that people’s eyes would be opened to the dangers of sin and opened to the reality of the gospel.

Eph 1:18   The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

We pray that laborers would be sent out to the lost.  We do our part in sharing the gospel and then we pray that Christian workers would go to those we aren’t able to reach right now.  There are missionaries that can reach people in other lands.  There are Christians that can speak to distant relatives.   There are Christians who can take a fresh approach to those we may have already witnessed to.

Luke 10:2  Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

We pray that people who have received Jesus Christ will become firmly rooted and that they will grow up to be strong trees of righteousness.

Gal 4:19   My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,

The Bible says to make disciples of all nations.  Once someone becomes a Christian, they need to be equipped through solid teaching and preaching in a local church.  They can grow to become like trees of righteousness, rooted and ground in the Word of God, not moved by the storms of life.
